Arkansas continues to enjoy a stable
real estate market, according to
Debbie Rawls, president of the
Arkansas Realtors Association and a
realtor with the Remax Real Estate
Center in Paragould. “It’s not doom
and gloom here…sales are still fairly
strong all over the state,” she reported
She said half of her business
comes from referrals outside
Arkansas and noted that she had
recently sold homes to people from
California and Nevada.
“Arkansas is a good place to be,”
she continued. “We have mountains,
rolling hills, flatlands, lakes and
streams. Our property taxes and the
cost of utilities are low. Arkansas is
very affordable”
Brown Hardman, an Arkadelphia
realtor and appraiser with United
Country Hometown, is in the business
of selling homes in small towns
in his state. “We don’t have any
urban areas in Arkansas except for
Little Rock,” he said. “We offer small
town living…the front porch America
concept…the chance to get back to
the simple life.”
Many of his customers are retirees
who not only hanker to small town
living but also enjoy spending a few
days house boating on one of
Arkansas eight pristine lakes or
camping in the Quachita Mountains.
Arkansas has long been a popular
destination for retirees. Hot Springs
Village, with more than 34,000 property
owners and 14,000 residents
(many of them retirees), is the
largest gated community in the state
and in the nation.
Many viewers have seen commercials
featuring former CHIPS
series star Erik Estrada offering
Arkansas resort property through
National Recreational Properties, a
Florida developer.
In the
past few
years, prices
have reportedly
dipped
somewhat at Arkansas resorts such as
Hot Springs Village and at retirement-
oriented Bella Vista. Even so,
many buyers report that prices in
Arkansas are still a bargain compared
with pricey markets like Miami and
Las Vegas. One Bella Vista real estate
agent was quoted in the Arkansas
Democrat-Gazette as saying, “There’s
a slowdown now, but it’s like a roller
coaster.”
